Chegubard, Papagomo, Salim Iskandar summoned by MCMC

KUALA LUMPUR: Three individuals have been summoned by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to provide statements, tomorrow.

In a statement today, MCMC said the individuals were social media influencers, Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as blogger Chegubard, Wan Muhammad Azri or Papagomo and Salim Iskandar.

The commission also said the recording of statements for Chegubard and Salim Iskandar will take place at the MCMC headquarters in Cyberjaya, Selangor while Papagomo's session will be held at the Setapak police station.

"The recording of statements follows the complaints lodged regarding the content uploaded on social media platforms which are suspected to have violated the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588).

"The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the same Act, which carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment for up to one year, or both, upon conviction," the statement read.

The statement, however, did not specify the content uploaded which had violated the Act.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said an investigation paper had also been opened after 43 reports were received on Dubai Move and the case was investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 and Section 505(B) of the Penal Code.
