26 undocumented foreigners detained for overstaying in Johor Baru

JOHOR BARU: State Immigration Department enforcement officers detained 26 undocumented foreigners for overstaying following a series of raids in the city centre here today.

Its director, Baharuddin Tahir, said 15 raids were conducted on several shoplots in the state's capital, where 115 foreigners had their travel documents screened.

The officers detained 23 Bangladeshi men, two Indian nationals and an Indonesian man after they were unable to produce valid documents.

They had committed various offences under the Immigration Act 1959/6363 for overstaying and entering the country illegally.

He urged migrants to participate in the department's Migrant Repatriation Programme, which will end on Dec 31.

Under the programme, undocumented foreigners are allowed to return to their home countries voluntarily if they have a one-way ticket.

They are also required to settle outstanding Immigration compounds and have valid travel documents.

He added that raids against migrants, and those harbouring them, will continue.
