Isham Jalil to offer 'unconditional apology' to A-GC over 1MDB case remarks

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Umno supreme council member Isham Jalil has agreed to offer an unconditional apology to the Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC) over his comment in Datuk Seri Najib Razak's corruption case involving 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib said Isham stated this in his representation letter to the A-GC in his bid to end the committal proceedings brought against him in December last year.

The prosecutor said Isham had sent the letter via e-mail on March 25.

Isham's lawyer Jamie Wong confirmed the matter.

Akram said he was waiting for further instructions from the Attorney-General and asked the court to set a new date for case management.

High Court judge Datuk Noorin Badaruddin set June 10 for the next case management.

In the ex-parte application filed last Dec 28, the AG also requested the court to imprison or impose a fine on Isham for the offence.

The request was filed over an interview titled "Townhall for Justice: Keadilan Sebenarnya Untuk Siapa", during which Isham reportedly commented on Najib's trial and appeal in the SRC International and 1MDB cases.

The comments were published on the Facebook page of "The Malaya Post" on Sept 30 last year.
