Kelantan police deny fentanyl seizure or smuggling attempt

KOTA BARU: Police today dispelled rumours of a fentanyl smuggling attempt into Kelantan, clarifying that there have been no seizures of the potent 'zombie drug' nor any efforts to bring it across the border.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun, however, said as precautionary measure, the state police have taken a proactive action by increasing intelligence and operation at the border in an effort to prevent such entry.

"In yesterday's Press conference, there was a missunderstanding on the issue of attempt to smuggle the drug into Kelantan.

"I had told the Press that in a recent meeting between Kelantan police with Thailand Parliament representatives, we have discussed few issues on cross-border activities.

"In the discussion, the representatives told us that there was an attempt to smuggle such drugs via Thailand-Myanmar border.

"But until today, I would like to deny making any seizure on the type of drug. There's also been no attempt to smuggle it into the state," he said in a statement tonight.
