Klang police deny not acting on 'Peeping Tom' report

KUALA LUMPUR: Police last month arrested a foreign man for "spying" on his female colleague.

Klang Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner S. Vijaya Rao said police received a report on the matter by the 18-year-old Malaysian victim who works as a KK Mart shop assistant in Meru, Klang, on April 2.

He said police initiated an investigation under Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1995 for acts intended to insult the modesty of a person.

"Police confiscated a mobile phone belonging to the suspect to assist in the investigation," he said in a statement today.

Vijaya Rao said the suspect was charged on April 19 under Section 509/511 of the Penal Code for a word or gesture intended to insult the modesty of a person.

The statement, however, did not provide details on whether the suspect had pleaded guilty or otherwise.

Vijaya Rao was believed to have issued the statement after a post on X claimed that nothing had come of the case, despite the police report being lodged.
