Two bills passed without debate at Dewan Negara

KUALA LUMPUR: The Dewan Negara today passed two bills without any debates.

The two bills, the Courts (Modes of Commencement of Civil Actions) Bill 2016 and the Judges' Remuneration (Amendment) Bill 2017, were both tabled for second and third readings at the upper house today.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Razali Ibrahim proposed, while Deputy Education Minister Datuk Chong Sin Woon seconded.

The Courts (Modes of Commencement of Civil Actions) Bill 2016 is aimed at standardising the commencement of civil proceedings including for ongoing and backlogged cases.

As for the Judges’ Remuneration (Amendment) Bill 2017, it is aimed at amending the Judges’ Remuneration Act 1971 (Act 45).

Earlier today, the Senate also passed the Labuan Business Activity Tax (Amendment) Bill 2017, which among others, aimed to allow the exchange of information related to taxation automatically between the government and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
