#NTP2017: 100pct success achieved in fight against corruption

KUALA LUMPUR: The country’s goal of reaching a key performance indicator (KPI) of 100 per cent in fighting corruption has been achieved.

The latest National Transformation Programme (NTP) report says 53 public-listed companies and government-linked companies had undergone comprehensive training, which provides guidance for the organisations to improve governance and prevent corruption.

Adopting a tough stance against corrupt practices, 58.9 per cent of registered corruption cases were disposed of last year. And, 80.7 per cent of registered cases have resulted in convictions.

In addition, 76.5 per cent of cases highlighted in the Auditor-General’s Report 2015 were successfully dealt with last year.

The adoption of the ISO 37001 standard into Malaysia’s Anti-Bribery Management System amplified existing anti-bribery controls and supports the Corporate Liability Provision.

The NTP comprises two components: the Economic Transformation Programme and the Government Transformation Programme. While distinct, the two programmes work in tandem towards reaching the country’s aspirations for 2020.

Nineteen special corruption court judges were trained last year to enhance their comprehensive understanding of the provisions of the law.

A total of 223,167 integrity pacts involving 8,681 projects worth RM13 billion were signed to get the business community and civil society involved in anti-corruption efforts,

Malaysia was ranked 62 in the list of 176 countries in the Corruption Perception Index last year.
