2020 Budget: Minimum penalty of RM100,000 proposed for illegal gamblers

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will propose a higher minimum penalty of RM100,000 for illegal gamblers.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said this would also include a minimum mandatory jail sentence of six months.

“For illegal operators, a higher minimum mandatory penalty of RM1 million and a 12-month minimum mandatory jail sentence will be imposed.

“Commencing 2020, the total number of special draws for Numbers Forecast Operator will be reduced from 11 to eight times a year,” said Lim while tabling the 2020 Budget.
