Khairy: Security staff, volunteers will get vaccine if registered recipients don't show up

PUTRAJAYA: The government has formulated a protocol that will be implemented at all 600 vaccination centres nationwide to avoid wastage of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti) Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the Covid-19 vaccine would be administered to security personnel and volunteers at the vaccination centres in the event that people who registered for the vaccine do not turn up.

The vaccine has a very short life span once it is removed from cold storage.

"This protocol would be implemented to avoid wastage related to the Covid-19 vaccine," he told a press conference which was conducted virtually today.

Meanwhile, on his official Twitter account, Khairy said the first shipment of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine would be flown into the country on a MASkargo flight.

"As announced by PM (Prime Minister) @ (Tan Sri) Muhyiddin Yassin, we will receive our first shipment of Pfizer vaccines on 21 Feb.

"A MASkargo flight will bring 312,390 doses of the vaccine to KLIA, where it will be sorted and sent to various vaccine storage sites around the country," he said.
