More than 300 PPVs to open nationwide to boost NIP [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: More Covid-19 vaccination centres (PPVs) will be set up to further boost the inoculation rate under the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme (NIP).

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said currently, there were 280 PPVs operating nationwide and more than 300 expected to be opened soon.

Meanwhile, vaccinations are also being carried out at 105 Health Ministry clinics, public halls, universities and indoor stadiums, he said.

"At the start of the programme (NIP), about 5,000 to 8,000 vaccine doses were administered daily. Now, we have successfully increased the rate to about 100,000 daily.

"In the next two months, we will receive about 16 million Covid-19 vaccine doses. With the increase in vaccine supply, the government is targeting daily vaccinations to reach 150,000 this month and the number will continue to rise," he said in a special address broadcast via Facebook live to commemorate 100 days since the NIP was launched on Feb 24.

Muhyiddin said he also took note of constructive suggestions to improve the process at the PPVs during visits there, including the two at the World Trade Centre KL (WTC) and Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (Mitec).

"I have informed (NIP coordinating minister) Khairy (Jamaluddin) and Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba for immediate action to be taken.

"To expedite the vaccine rollout, the government has also engaged private health centres and clinics into the NIP. By the end of June, a total 1,000 private clinics (PPVGP) will be participating in the NIP."

In addition, the vaccination registration process was being enhanced by the Special Committee on Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee (JKJAV), he said.

He said the government spared no efforts in ensuring the country achieves herd immunity and all assets were also being deployed for the purpose.

Muhyiddin also encouraged Malaysians, including youth groups and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to register as volunteers to lend support to the programme.
