Kedah businessman pleads guilty to bribing cop

ALOR STAR: A businessman pleaded guilty to bribing a policeman in Kulim early this month, at a Sessions Court here today.

Jaibim Daggar, 53, from Kampung Sungai Seluang in Lunas admitted to giving RM100 to Lans Corporal Mohd Wira Romli from Kulim Hi-Tech Park police station as inducement not to take action against him for driving without licence and not wearing the seat belt.

The offence was committed by him at about 1.45am on April 3 at Jalan Kulim – Mahang under Section 17(b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009.

Jaibim, who sell carpets from door to door in Kulim, could face a maximum 20 years’ jail and fine not less than five times the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

Judge Najwa Che Mat fixed April 17 for sentencing.
