"Missing" Peter Chong back in M'sia, seen at KLIA: IGP

KUALA LUMPUR: Peter Chong, the former Petaling Jaya councillor who reportedly went missing last week amidst fears of an abduction, has re-emerged in Kuala Lumpur, police said today.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar tweeted two pictures of the activist, believed to have been taken at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at about 1pm today.

“Congratulations @PDRMsia Kuala Lumpur. “Missing” Peter Chong is back from Pattaya, this afternoon,” the tweet read.

Chong allegedly went missing on April 6, in the wake of the suspected abduction of fellow activist, Pastor Raymond Koh. Chong’s family lodged a police report a day after his disappearance.

About a week before he disappeared, Chong left a cryptic post on his Facebook page, which raised fears over is welfare.

“I was walking for my breakfast at my usual warung. A young motorcyclist rode up, and asked if I live around the area. I asked him back, why?

“He said he recognised me, that I like to go for protests and candlelight vigils (Pastor Koh’s vigils).

“I was a little worried and looked around, but there was no one else around.

“He said he sokong (support) what I do. He said ‘tapi mahu hati-hati… sekarang banyak orang tiba-tiba hilang. Mereka semua tahu mana orang tinggal.” (Be careful… nowadays, a lot of people suddenly disappear. They know where people live.)

“I asked, mereka itu siapa? (Who are they?) He just said, pandai-pandai lah (be smart) … take care boss … and rode away. Now, is this strange?” read the post.

Khalid, however, told a press conference later that investigations revealed that Chong had crossed the Bukit Kayu Hitam border to Thailand on the day he was said to have gone missing.
