KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today officiated the ground-breaking ceremony for a 1,251-unit Bandaraya Apartment in Sungai Udang, Segambut.
The two-block apartment, which sits on 2.23 hectares of land, stands at 32 and 34 storeys high and located just 15 minutes from the city centre.
Najib said the idea of developing the apartment was to help provide a house to rent for middle income earners with a total monthly household income of below RM10,000.
"They will be required to pay RM800 per month whereby only RM500 is for the rental and the other RM300 monthly will be the tenants' savings, to be returned after five years.
"The RM300 'forced savings' a month is so that the tenants will have RM18,000 for downpayment to purchase their first home after their five-year tenancy with the apartment ends," he said today.
Najib said successful projects such as the Residensi Kerinchi, Mass Rapid Transit, East Coast Rail Link and the High Speed Rail proved that the government had always put the people first in every decision.
"Do not be fooled by the opposition. Remember the 34 residents who were against the Residensi Kerinchi project? Now, they are left disappointed as other residents now have a close to RM500,000 apartment unit.
"The people must know how to differentiate between diamonds and glass. Barisan Nasional has never cheated the people. We do things for the people."
