IPOH: The case of an infant who died without regaining consciousness after being in the care of a babysitter, has been categorised as murder.
The babysitter in question, who operates out of Taman Meru, is now in custody and is being remanded for a week.
District Police chief ACP Sum Chang Keong said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
He said the 36-year-old woman's was remand period began yesterday.
"The autopsy report by Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) yesterday revealed that the infant died due to a blow to the head.
"The baby boy suffered internal bleeding in the head due to the impact from being hit with a large object," he told a press conference today.
Eight-month-old Muhammad Syahmi Naufal Muhammad Adam Tham was pronounced dead at 6.21am yesterday while receiving treatment at the HRPB.
His mother, Robaah Kamaruddin, 30, said she had received a call from the babysitter on Wednesday informing her that her child was in poor condition.
Robaah and husband, Muhammad Adam Tham Abdullah, 30, went to fetch Syahmi from the babysitter's home and rushed him to the hospital.
However, the child died without regaining consciousness.
