Government pensioners complex to be built in Putrajaya

KUALA LUMPUR: A Government Pensioners Complex is set to be built in the country's administrative capital, in an effort to unite various retirees associations to oversee the welfare of the group, said the Malaysian Government Pensioners Foundation.

In the 2050 National Transformation Programme (TN50) Forum on government pensioners organised by the foundation today, its chairman, Tan Sri Aseh Che Mat, said the proposal to build the complex in Putrajaya had already been verbally approved by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

“The proposal will be brought to Cabinet in the near future.

“The Prime Minister had approved a plot of land beside Putrajaya Central for the complex, but official documents are not yet ready."

The plot of land measures 26 acres in size, he said, but they only needed about 10 acres for the purpose of building offices, meeting venues, a hotel and most importantly, a hospital. All the facilities, he added, would be designated for government pensioners and pensioners associations nationwide.

“Our main request is for a hospital to be built (within the complex) that caters especially to pensioners.

“We will outsource the administration of the hospital, but they must have special treatment and facilities for pensioners.”

There are currently 750,000 government pensioners and 159 registered pensioners associations in the country.
