Ex-MAHB general manager charged with criminal breach of trust

KUALA LUMPUR: A former senior general manager of Malaysian Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) today claimed trial at the Sessions Court for committing criminal breach of trust on his medical entitlement, about 16 months ago.

Md Shamsuri Md Isa, 41, was alleged to have committed the offence by undergoing the RM43,698.55 'Sleeve Gastractomy' laparoscopic surgery which is not borne by MAHB, at the Prince Court Medical Centre Bhd at Jalan Kia Peng on Dec 18, 2015.

Deputy public prosecutor S. Thangavelu from the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) requested the court to impose a bail of RM50,000.

He also told the court that Md Shamsuri who was charged in the Shah Alam Sessions court on Thursday (May 4), was given a bail of RM25,000 and he had to surrender his passport to the court.

Md Shamsuri was charged in the Shah Alam Sessions court with submitting false claims for beauty treatments.

Thangavelu also applied to Judge Azura Alwi to have the case transferred to the Shah Alam Sessions court, for a joint trial.

"There are 25 common witnesses for the cases and 10 for this case."

Counsel Chow Wee in seeking a lower bail for his client said Md Shamsuri had been very cooperative with the MACC from the beginning.

"He has a seven-year-old old child and my client suffers from various ailments. In 2013 he underwent a bypass, is asthmatic, has kidney problems and suffers from allergies.

However, Chow objected to the case being transferred Shah Alam, for a joint trial.

Azura set bail at RM20,000 in one surety and fixed May 29 for mention, document submission and to hear arguments, for the case transfer application.

It was reported earlier, that the accused had allegedly misused the corporate credit card provided by MAHB to undergo a surgery which was not stipulated in the interest contract.
