Mustapa rubbishes rumours M'sian economy will "collapse in Sept"

JELI: International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed has denied an allegation that the Malaysian economy will crash by Sept.

He dismissed the claim as an unfounded rumour triggered amidst anticipation of the upcoming 14th general election.

Mustapa maintained that no one can make an accurate projection of the country’s economic performance, even in the face of global volatility.

"What is certain is that the world’s economy (and that of Malaysia’s) is improving.

“We achieved record-high trade in the first quarter of this year, growing 23 per cent, the highest since 2010," he said after officiating the Jeli Polytechnic's fourth convocation here, today.

A total of 136 students received diplomas in aquaculture and agro-technology at the ceremony, which was also attended by Jeli Polytechnic Director Wan Azlan Wan Ismail. -- BERNAMA
