Gov't beefs up security with special task force for 29th SEA Games

PUTRAJAYA: The government has set up a special task force to ensure a smooth and safe environment at the 29th SEA Games, branded Kuala Lumpur 2017 (KL2017), which will take place from August 19 to 30.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the KL2017 Anti-terrorism Task Force will be led by the police’s Internal Security and Public Order Department and the Armed Forces.

“The task force will collaborate and coordinate with various ministries, agencies and departments to ensure that the KL2017 will run smoothly.

“They will focus on three main components – before (prevention and increase of security); during (crisis management); and after (recovery) the games.

“We hope this will boost the confidence of the people and KL2017 participants in the government’s efforts to ensure their safety,” he said in a statement.

Earlier, Zahid chaired the KL2017 Safety High Level Committee meeting.

Also present at the meeting were ministers, deputy ministers and top officials from relevant ministries, agencies and departments.
