Man drowns at popular Chamang Waterfalls tourist spot

KUANTAN: A Bangladeshi man drowned while swimming at the popular Chamang Waterfalls tourist spot in Bentong, yesterday.

It is learnt that Monir Hossain Jalal Uddin, who was in his 40s, was picnicking and swimming at the waterfalls with relatives. The water level is believed to have risen drastically and suddenly, and the Monir was sucked under by strong currents and disappeared.

Director of the Pahang Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Zainal Yusoff said 11 APM officers rushed to the location after receiving a call at 3.45pm that the victim was missing.

The team later found Monir in the water, with his foot trapped between rocks at the waterfalls.

His remains were later handed over to the police, and taken to the Bentong Hospital for a post-mortem. -- BERNAMA
