High Speed Rail and Rapid Transit System will cement close between Malaysia and Singapore

PUTRAJAYA: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan today received a courtesy call from Singapore’s Environment and Water Resources Minister Masagos Zulkifli.

Masagos is in Malaysia today to attend the 19th Sub-Regional Ministerial Steering Committee on Transboundary Haze Pollution.

In their lunch meeting here at the Economic Planning Unit of the Prime Minister’s Department, they discussed at length in strengthening the bilateral ties between the two nations.

Both ministers also acknowledged and stressed on the importance of economic integration and multilateral cooperation among ASEAN nations. While Rahman and Masagos agreed that the bilateral ties between Malaysia and Singapore were now at its peak under the wise leadership and durian diplomacy of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, recent projects undertaken by both countries would further reinforce the bond of these two nations.

Among the projects touched in their discussions is the highly-anticipated Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail and the much-discussed Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System.

On the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail project, Masagos expressed confidence of the eventual fruition of the project.

He shared the most recent effort by the Singaporean government on the project which included the planned acquisition of two golf courses for the construction of High Speed Rail tracks and stations.

“Our meeting today symbolises the kinship between Malaysia and Singapore. This is a relationship cherished by our leaders and one that is realised after years of hard work between the two governments.

"Having such close relationship has helped our countries in planning various infrastructures projects and increasing trade in ways our people never imagined,” Rahman said after the meeting.
