Govt aims to have 100 MNC based in KL by 2020

SHAH ALAM: The government has set a target of having 100 multinational corporations to be set up and operating in Kuala Lumpur by 2020.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said this is one of the government’s aims under the National Transformation Programme, to entice MNCs into making the federal capital as their base of operations.

“As of 2016, InvestKL has sucessfully managed to bring in 64 MNCs to the nation," he said in his speech at the presentation of NTP 2016 here tonight.

Najib said the launch of the Digital Free Trade Zone (DFTZ) in March has enabled Malaysia to become the first digital economy hub, outside China.

The DTFZ would lead to the creation of 60,000 high-income job opportunities, he added.

Najib added that the DFTZ would also see Bandar Malaysia being developed as a world-renowned e-commerce hub.

The move, he said, will see more than 20 per cent being contributed to the country’s gross domestic product.

By Oct 1 this year 1,500 small-medium enterprises will be listed on the Alibaba.com e-commerce platform.
