Customs: About 62,000 companies submit dubious GST statements

KOTA KINABALU: About 62,000 companies in the country have failed to comply with guidelines in submitting their Goods and services (GST) tax statements.

Customs director-general Datuk Subromaniam Tholasy said based on their data, these errant companies had either wrongly or purposely declared tax collection that were below the expected amount.

"Since last week, the department has issued friendly reminders to some of these companies which they can also check at Taxpayer Access Point.

"We will give them three months to amend their statements dated from April 1, 2015," he said, adding auditing and legal action would be taken against these companies after the grace period.

Subromoniam was speaking after the department's Excellent Services award ceremony at the Customs complex here.

Also present was the department's state director Datuk Janathan Kandok.
