Culture broader, international perspective, US Ambassador tells Malaysian youths

KOTA KINABALU: Malaysian youths should strive to study abroad and bring back valuable knowledge and experience to benefit the nation, United States' Ambassador to Malaysia Kamala Shirin Lakhdir said today.

"It does not necessarily have to be the US... Studying overseas in general is an excellent opportunity for Malaysians to experience a different way of thinking and doing things.

"Malaysia is part of a region that is essential to the global economy. As future leaders of such a country, Malaysian youths should culture a broader, international perspective," she said when officiating of establishment of the new American Corner at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) here this morning.

The American Corner Sabah is the newest such infrastructure, joining nine other American Corners currently operating in Perak, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Johor, and Sarawak.

It will serve as a platform for joint programmes and dialogues focused on topics of mutual interest - such as environmental conservation, technology, and culture.

Various activities have already been organised through the corner, including a Scuba Diving Programme and a talk on depression and anxiety.
