Jempol crash: 'I learnt of my brother's death via Facebook Messenger'

JEMPOL: When an old friend contacted him through Facebook Messenger yesterday, Azman Mohd Taip, 47, didn't expect to receive bad news.

The last thing he expected was to be told that his brother had died in an accident at KM25 of Jalan Bahau-Keratong yesterday.

"She asked me to call to confirm the tragic news. I was stunned.

"But after looking at the accident pictures she had sent, which had been making its rounds on WhatsApp, believed to be taken from the accident scene, I was convinced that my brother was involved in the accident," he said when met at the Jempol Hospital mortuary here, today.

In the 2.20pm mishap, Osman Mohamed Taip, 31 and his wife, Rosniza Othman, 32, were killed when their vehicle collided with a trailer lorry and two other vehicles.

The couple's three-year-old son, Muhammad Alif Taqif, broke his left hand and sustained head injuries in the incident.

A family of six in a Proton Exora also died in the crash when their vehicle burst into flames.

They were identified as Wan Mohd Fauzi Wan Ibrahim, 51; his wife Mas Noraida M Yusoff, 45 ;and their four children: Wan Muhamad Iskandar, 22; Wan Nor Atirah, 18; Wan Mohamad Amar Haziq, 13; and Wan Nor Alisha, 7.

Azman said the family will hold a discussion on Muhammad Alif's welfare after funeral arrangements are completed.

He said Osman's body will be buried at the Sungai Merab Luar Muslim cemetery in Bangi while Rosniza's remains will be buried at the Jalan Endau Rompin cemetery.
