Four NGOs lodge report over malicious 'rehashing' of 1MDB issue

KUALA LUMPUR: A non-governmental organisation yesterday lodged a police report against four individuals for allegedly being in cahoots with foreign powers to rehash issues relating to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Jaringan Melayu Malaysia president Datuk Azwanddin Hamzah said this followed the move by the United States Department of Justice (DoJ) to seize another US$540 million (RM2.3 billion) in assets allegedly stolen from 1MDB.

“The issue is not new as it was raised last year. These are baseless accusations.

“I am here to lodge a police report against four individuals who have made plans with respective individuals in DoJ to rehash issues relating to 1MDB,” he said at the Dang Wangi police station here, yesterday.

The four individuals are former Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) secretariat member Cynthia Gabriel, lawyer Matthias Chang, Suaram co-founder R. Sivarasa and Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown.

The issue, Azwanddin claim, was recycled with the intent to undermine the credibility of the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and other national leaders.

He urged the police to investigate the four individuals under Section 4A of the Election Offences Act 1954, Section 499/500 of the Penal Code, Section 120A of the Penal Code and the Sedition Act.
