Heightened security in Malaysia, following global terror attacks

PUTRAJAYA: Heightened security measures will be put in place in Malaysia, following the spate of terror attacks worldwide said Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"Insyallah (god willing) the safety (of Malaysians) is assured. Security measures have been and will be taken.

"(Following) the recent attacks in Marawi in southern Philippines, Bangkok and Mecca, we have tightened security (to prevent such incidents from taking place here in Malaysia).

"We do not want any untoward incident (to occur her)," Zahid, who is also the home minister told reporters at the Seri Perdana Complex here today during Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Cabinet Ministers open house event.

He also took the opportunity to wish all Malaysians Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri and congratulated Najib and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor for hosting the open house.

"It looks like there are more visitors this year as compared to the previous years. We were informed that people had made a beeline from the main entrance and around the Seri Perdana Complex.

"This shows that the event turned out to be a good celebration.

"In the previous years, there were quite a number of foreigners at the open house, but this year we see many Malaysians who came from places near and far, such as from Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, Perak and Johor."

Zahid said this showed that people were eager to meet the country's top leader and his wife and felt that their Hari Raya was not complete without greeting them.

"When the people walked in and shook hands with the prime minister, his wife, they were full of smiles."
