Man feared drowned while fishing off Morib

BANTING: A search and rescue mission is underway for a fisherman, who is feared drowned at the Morib beach.

Juani Mahat, 61, from Kampung Baru in Rasah, Selangor, was fishing with his son at the beach using nets when the former disappeared from sight.

His disappearance was realised by his son at 5.30pm, who then alerted the authorities when his search proved fruitless.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Mohd Sani Harul said a search and rescue mission was mounted shortly after they were alerted.

“The joint search and rescue mission was launched by the Fire and Rescue Department, police, Civil Defence Force and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency.

"The operation is focused on one nautical mile from shore, where the victim was last seen. We have also informed local fishermen to alert the authorities should they find the man," he said.
