July 2, 9am: Traffic smooth on all major highways

KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic flow along all major highways as of 9am is reported to be smooth.

A Plus Malaysia Bhd spokesman said that traffic movement on the North-South Expressway is under control.

A Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) spokesman said that vehicular flow on the East Coast Expressways 1 and 2 is smooth.

The public can obtain traffic updates through the toll-free Plusline at 1800-88-0000 and www.twitter.com/plustrafik; or from LLM at 1800-88-7752 and www.twitter.com/llminfotrafik.
The New Straits Times team was given the opportunity to tag along with the police's Traffic Enforcement and Investigations Department and the Air Wing Unit as they made the day’s first aerial surveillance of traffic conditions from an AW139 helicopter.

The chopper took off from the Sungai Besi Police Airbase at about 10.30am and is expected to make a pit stop in Ipoh before returning south.

Traffic checks near the Duta Toll, Bukit Lanjan, Lembah Beringin, Slim River and Tapah at 11am showed smooth-flowing traffic in both directions of the North-South Expressway.

Authorities, however, expect the vehicle volume to gradually increase as the day progresses, as the balik kampung crowd begin to make their way back to the nation’s major cities.
