PEKAN: People from all walks of life arrived in droves at Taman Tasik Sultan Abu Bakar here this morning for the much-anticipated Aidilfitri open house hosted by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
Although the event was scheduled to begin at 10am, most guests arrived much earlier to take their seats under canopies while awaiting the arrival of Najib and Rosmah.
Clad in a brown Baju Melayu, Najib, accompanied by Rosmah, arrived at about 10.45am as hundreds of guests converged near the main entrance to shake hands with and greet them.
In terms of Raya treats, revellers were spoilt for choice at the event, as some 150 booths set up by caterers offered various traditional delicacies such as rendang Pekan, satay, laksa Pahang and the popular dessert, puding raja (royal pudding).
The open house, to run until 3pm, will also see comedians, cultural performers and musical artistes entertaining guests.
The Sultan of Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah, the Regent of Pahang Tengku Mahkota Tengku Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah and his wife, Tengku Puan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah are expected to join the festivities at noon.
