Cameras upgraded in Parliament for hi-def broadcast of debates, proceedings

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians can now watch debates and proceedings of Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara in crystal clear clarity, as a major upgrade to the its broadcasting cameras are now complete.

In a joint effort with Radio Television Malaysia (RTM), 16 high-definition cameras worth RM10,284,626 were installed in the two houses of parliament, via the "Digital High-Definition TV Facilities For Parliament of Malaysia. "

The installation of the cameras which began in August 2016 was completed in May 2017.

At the handover ceremony which took place at the Parliament House today, parliament administrative head Datuk Awang Alik Jeman, said that the project was in line with the government's initiative to convert from analogue to full digital broadcast.

"Hence, it was necessary for the Parliament to be on par with the changes.

"I would like to thank RTM who have successfully completed the project within the stipulated time and cost. It took 20 weeks to complete the installation.

Nine units of cameras placed in Dewan Rakyat while seven units in Dewan Negara.

The cameras will be fully operational beginning on July 24 this year, the fifth-term of the 13th Dewan Rakyat’s second meeting which will be broadcasted live by RTM.

Similar HD cameras have been widely used at various prominent locations, such as; the Parliament of Australia, Masjidil Haram in Makkah, Istana Johor and many more.

Also present at the event were Dewan Rakyat secretary Datuk Roosme Hamzah, RTM (Broadcasting Operation) deputy director Magli Alias and VME Broadcast Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Azhar Ab Rahman.

After the ceremony, members of the media and the representative of the Parliament, were given a short tour to the Dewan Rakyat.
