LANGKAWI: Langkawi will have it first electronic vehicle service or ‘E-bug’ that will be operating at Jalan Pantai Chenang next month.
Langkawi district officer Isahak Murat said the pioneer project would be carried out by Langkawi Development Foundation and Naza Auto Solutions (Asia) Sdn Bhd (Naza Auto Solutions).
He said the project was aimed to reduce carbon dioxide emission on the island.
“This is the second project aimed to make Langkawi a low carbon island after electric taxi service.
“It will become a new attraction to Pantai Chenang and the island,” he said when met at the Langkawi Muafakat Aidilfitri Open House at Dataran Pekan Rabu here today.
Present was Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.
Bashah also unveiled the 'E-Bug' service at the open house.
Meanwhile, Naza Auto Solutions general manager Arif Mohd Rashid said the pioneer project would involve a 2.4km ride from Laman Padi to the Langkawi Holiday Villa Beach Resort and Spa.
“For start we will use two units of ‘E-Bug’ with 14 seats capacity. We also have ordered two more ‘E-Bug’ to meet future demand,” he said.
Arif said the ‘E-Bug’ use 12 units six volt battery and could reach a maximum speed of 28km per-hour.
