35 per cent of 330 complaints resolved this year - Suhakam

PEKAN: The Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) has been able to resolve 35 per cent of the 330 complaints received during the first six months of this year, its chairman Tan Sri Razali Ismail said.

He said the complaints included on issues of citizenship and death in police custody with the highest complaints recorded in Kuala Lumpur, totalling 57 cases, followed by Sabah (143 cases) and Sarawak (30 cases).

“Last year, a total of 879 complaints were received and some of them had been resolved, with Suhakam also conducting 24 investigations on the field with the relevant agencies involved,” he told a media conference at a programme, Suhakam With The Pekan Community, here today.

Razali said he hoped the people were now more aware of their rights and of the channels available for them to lodge complaints, including with Suhakam.

On complaints lodged with Suhakam, but on matters which did not come under its jurisdiction, he said, they would be passed on to the relevant authorities or agencies. — BERNAMA
