Authorities seize four 30-tonne containers storing halal, non-halal frozen meat together

JOHOR BARU: A total of 160 packs of pork legs were among the frozen meat seized during yesterday’s raid at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) here.

The Department of Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Service (Maqis) has seized four 30-tonne containers where halal and non-halal frozen meat were found stored together in a cargo shipment area at the PTP.

Johor/Malacca regional department director Siti Nur Ahmad said the inspection on the four containers was completed at 7am today.

“Checks on the four containers revealed that only one container had a consignment of lamb meat with a foreign halal logo stamped on it while others contained other meat, including 160 packs of pork legs and another 116 boxes of internal organs of animals stored inside the same container,” she said.

It could not be immediately established what animals parts were in the containers and samples of the internal organs have been sent for further tests.
