National Day 2017 celebration to reenact Aug 31, 1957 moments

PUTRAJAYA: The National Day celebration this year will feature a unique feature as it will pay homage to the country's first Independence Day celebration back in 1957.

This year's celebration, to be held at the historic Dataran Merdeka, will see a reenactment of 1957, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak.

"This year's National Day celebration will be different from the previous years as we will reenact the scene in Stadium Merdeka when Malaya achieved independence on Aug 31, 1957.

"We are using the reenactment concept as we want to bring Malaysians back to that historic day when we celebrated Merdeka 60 years ago.

"This is also to remind all Malaysians to appreciate the sacrifices of our forefathers and educate the younger generation on the spirit of independence," he told at a press conference after chairing a meeting on the National Day and Malaysia Day celebration, today.

He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will deliver his National Day mandate at Angkasapuri on Aug 30.

The Malaysia Day 2017 celebration, he said, will be held in Kota Kinabalu.

The theme for this year's National Day and Malaysia Day is "Negaraku Sehati Sejiwa."

There will also be other activities such as Merdeka@Komuniti, Merdeka Cycling programme, Doa Untuk Malaysia and the Merdeka My Buddies Run.
