JMM questions alleged FGV conspiracy to oust Zakaria, demands answers

KUALA LUMPUR: Jaringan Melayu Malaysia (JMM) is deeply concerned with a planned conspiracy within Felda Global Ventures Holdings Bhd (FGV) which was pointed out by Special Affairs Department (Jasa) Director-General Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi.

JMM president Datuk Azwanddin Hamzah claimed that he was told that six of the company’s board members had planned to dismiss Datuk Zakaria Arshad as he was deemed a ‘hindrance’ to their personal agenda.

“Former chairman Tan Sri Isa Samad wanted to dismiss Zakaria on the grounds of governance. Now the acting chairman Tan Sri Sulaiman Mahbob, too, has expressed intention to dismiss Zakaria for the same reason.

“The dismissal was likely an attempt to cover up the issues of corruption or other key issues that had surfaced before this or to hide the misconducts related to bribery and abuse of power of those six board members,” said Azwanddin, adding these were questions that Sulaiman must answer.

“If this (is true) then the FGV stock price will continue to go down. We are seeking a clarification from Sulaiman and the six board members as to why Zakaria Arshad is deemed a hindrance to FGV’s agenda.

“I would like to ask Sulaiman, who is responsible for managing and administering FGV? The president, chief executive officer or the six board of directors?

“We all know that in a corporate organisation, the president or the CEO is entrusted with managing or administering an organisation. Perhaps, he has forgotten the real corporate practice,” he said.

He said Sulaiman should have acted more professionally when dealing with internal information of FGV.

“Many of which are circulating through Whatsapp’s groups have created unnecessary misunderstandings to the recipients.

“If Sulaiman is unable to answer these questions, we will ask Datuk Seri Idris Jala and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to act more proactively to investigate the personal agenda of the said board of directors, which is, to me, the best way to resolve the FGV crisis,” he said.
