Shahidan lodges report against Facebook user for malicious remark

KANGAR: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim today lodged a police report against a Facebook user for accusing him of causing the death of his own child 16 years ago.

Shahidan, accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Shamshiah Mohd Yassin, arrived at the Kangar police station at 5.30pm to lodge the report.

Shahidan claimed that a Facebook user by the name of Jeffry Teoh had accused him of causing the death of his own child in 2001 while he was the Perlis Menteri Besar.

“I find the posting slanderous and it has tarnished my image as a politician. It was unwise for the account holder to make such statement,” he said after the lodging the report.

Shahidan was commenting on a post by Teoh with a photograph of him and several individuals uploaded on Malaysiakini (BM Version) Facebook page.

The photograph carried the caption stating that Shahidan today explained his relationship with former prime minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

Teoh had commented that Shahidan had to support (Dr Mahathir) or else he could face a death sentence for throwing his child out from an apartment.

The photograph was uploaded at 6.52pm on Wednesday and Teoh made the comment at 7.03pm.

Shahidan said he was disappointed by several individuals who tried to politicise the death of his child, who had slipped and fallen from the 31st floor of Kondominium Sri Bistani in Jalan Putra, Kuala Lumpur back in December 2001.

“This is a personal issue, how could he play it in such a way,

“Furthermore, my family took a long time to recover from the devastating incident,” he said.

Kangar district police chief Superintendent Wari Kiew confirmed receiving the report.

He said police have received a total of 22 reports regarding the comment at the Kangar police station, and one each in the Kuala Perlis and Arau police stations.

He added two other reports were lodged at the Damansara police station in Selangor.

He said the case will be handed over to the Petaling Jaya district police’s Commercial Crime Investigation Division for further action.
