304 Indians held in M'sian jails: Indian government

NEW DELHI: Up to 304 Indians are currently being held in Malaysian jails in connection with various offences, the Indian government has revealed.

India's Ministry of External Affairs told Parliament on Wednesday that 7,448 Indian nationals are in foreign jails in 81 countries.

Saudi Arabia has 2,046 Indian prisoners, followed by 1,376 in the United Arab Emirates, 506 in Kuwait, 304 in Malaysia and 133 in Singapore.

These countries have a large population of Indian migrant workers. The number of Indian nationals held in Pakistan is 468.

The Indian government said due to domestic legal reasons, the United States, Canada, Australia and many European countries do not share information about Indian nationals in their prisons. – BERNAMA
