More than 4,000 illegal migrant workers arrested so far in nationwide crackdown

GEORGE TOWN: The Immigration Department has so far arrested 4,104 illegal migrant workers and 89 employers for flouting immigration offences in its mass crackdown following the end of the deadline for the Enforcement Card (E-Card) applications.

The arrests were made since July 1 until 6am today.

Immigration Department director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali warned other illegal migrant workers out there and their employers to surrender themselves or risk being hunted down.

“It is better for you to surrender yourselves or we will look for you. We will catch you, no matter what it takes.

“There will be no let-up in our nationwide crackdown,” he said at the state Immigration Department Hari Raya open house in Butterworth this afternoon.

Mustafar also warned unscrupulous agents used by companies to facilitate the E-Card application process that the department would also be looking for them.

“I don't know why companies need to use agents, who are more often than not, unscrupulous.

"We will use this opportunity to hunt them down too,” he added.
