Poison-laced noodles: Education Dept forms task force to probe case

KUCHING: Sri Aman district Education Office has set-up a task force to investigate the case of a Form One student who gave poison-laced fried noodles to his classmate.

State Education Department director Rakayah Maadon said apart from investigating the case, the task force has also been instructed to check on bully cases at the secondary school, where the incident took place.

"We are in the midst of identifying the cause of the incident. The task force is expected to file a full report on the case by next week," Rakayah told the New Straits Times today.

The department, said Rakayah, has also instructed the management of the secondary school to submit a report on the incident.

"According to the standard requirement by the Education Ministry, the secondary school must report the incident verbally to the department within one day after the incident.

"The school will also be given three days to complete its investigation into the case and a week to resolve the issue," she said.

It was reported that a Form One student was admitted to the Sri Aman Hospital after consuming fried noodles mixed with cockroach poison given by his classmate on Thursday.

The case took a suprising twist after the grandfather of the perpertrator lodged a police report suggesting that his grandson had been bullied by the other boy.

The 65-year-old man claimed the victim had extorted money and food from his grandson on a daily basis.
