Najib calls on NGOs to play pivotal role in uniting Malaysians

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today urged non-governmental organisations to play a role in uniting Malaysia and supporting the government, as he vowed to achieve more future successes for the country.

At a solidarity dinner organised by Persatuan Amalan Minda Cergas Malaysia here tonight, Najib stressed on the critical role NGOs play in not only contributing to meaningful causes, but also to unite Malaysia in a wave of diversity.

"As NGOs, you represent the third most important sector after the public and private sectors.

"In a increasingly developing country, you play bigger and more important roles as you contribute to causes bigger than yourselves.

"When you do so, there will exist a more caring and loving society."

NGOs must support the government, he added, pledging to deliver more national achievements, on the back of launching the world class Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system this month.

He said on the brink of Malaysia celebrating its 60th year of Merdeka next month, the rakyat should delve into the history of the country and take lessons in the uniting of Malaysians of all colours, races and religions.

The solidarity dinner was attended by representatives of 20 local NGOs made up of Malays, Chinese and Indians.
