56 cops to compete in Sea Games next month

KUALA LUMPUR: Fifty six police officers will be representing Malaysia in Sea Games next month.

Federal police Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah said the selected policemen and policewomen would take part in 19 games which included shooting, cycling, silat, karate, boxing, football, basketball, taekwondo and hockey.

Apart from that, he said a total of 114 police officers have been appointed as technical staff during the games.

"They will be involved in 18 games, such as badminton, tennis and hockey, as coaches, referees and managers," he said, after closing the 2017 IPSC shooting competition in Cheras today.

He said 2,607 personnel will work as volunteers during the games from Aug 19 to Aug 30.

"They will be placed according based on the needs of the events.

"The presence of these police volunteers will also enhance the response time should any untoward eventualities tales place as they are also tasked to help in emergency situation." he said.
