8,000 cops ready to be deployed for Sea Games

KUALA LUMPUR: Police will deploy more than 8,000 officers and personnel to maintain the highest level of security during the 2017 Sea Games, from Aug 19 to 30.

Federal police Internal Security and Public Orders Department director Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah said half of the workforce will be from the city police, while the other half are from the state contingents.

“All selected officers and personnel have been trained to protect the athletes, sports officials and visitors.

“During the games, police will be the representative of Malaysia. As such, they have also been trained to assist the participating countries,” he told reporters after visiting National Aquatic Stadium, Bukit Jalil, today.

Also present were City police chief Datuk Amar Singh and his deputy Datuk Mazlan Lazim.

Zulkifli said a special investigating team would be set up if any untoward incident involving the athletes, sports officials and tourists appeared during the games.

“We plan to expedite the investigation and other procedures, insurance claim, for example, can be completed before they go back to their country.” he said.
