MACC raids seven spots including customs office in probe into illegal bauxite-mining activities in Pahang

KUANTAN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission(MACC) has raided seven locations in Kuantan as part of its probe into illegal bauxite mining in the state.

Among the locations are the offices of Kuantan Port, Customs Department and several companies linked to the mining operations.

The action followed the arrests of 10 people including a Customs assistant director on Wednesday.

During the raids, various documents including Customs related forms, bank statements, export documentation and laptops were seized for further investigation.

In other related developments, MACC also raided several houses of those arrested and seized several documents such as bank statements as part of its probe.

Until today (Aug 3), MACC has taken statements from 18 people including drivers of lorries used to transport bauxite, manager, company supervisor and company secretary.

Meanwhile when contacted, MACC Intelligence Division Director Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahya confirmed the raids and said further action is being taken by the graftbusters.
