The man, identified as Muhammad Chan Abdullah, 78, had lived alone. It was learnt that he had suffered from senile dementia.

He is believed to have been dead for less than a week before his body was found.

The body was discovered by a police volunteer, Khairol Afendi Samah, yesterday.

Khairol, 41, lives across the man's house and yesterday decided to inspect the source of a bad stench coming from the man's home.

Accompanied by his friend, Khairol visited the house at 7.45pm and noticed that the door and windows were ajar.

The man's body was found in the living room, hanging from the neck.

The duo lodged a report at the Pulau Sebang police station.

Prior to this, the man, who had no family, had been reported missing but later was discovered in Ipoh, Perak.
