No plastic vegetables at Tawau supermarket: Domestic Trade Ministry

TAWAU: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry has rubbished claims that plastic vegetables are being sold at a supermarket in the district.

Its district head Sam Aminuddin told Berita Harian that the team had carried out an inspection at the supermarket after receiving information on the matter.

“We found no plastic vegetables being sold at the premises as claimed. Nevertheless, we will continue to monitor and conduct inspection,” he said.

Concerns over the selling of fake vegetables arises on Friday, when a two-minute-and-45-second video was uploaded on Facebook by user ‘Nurul Syarmia’, who claimed the vegetables she bought from Century Department Store Sdn Bhd were made of plastic.

In the video, the user claimed that the cooked 'Gai Lan' (Chinese broccoli) vegetables were difficult to eat and looked like it was made from plastic.

Meanwhile, Century Department Store Sdn Bhd on its Facebook page issued a statement denying the allegation.

In the posting, it urged the user to come forward and explain her post which has gone viral.

“If the claim is not true, we will take a serious action and bring the case to court. We urge the Facebook account owner #NurulSyarmia to make a public apology on this matter, which she has shared," it stated.
