Chinese State Councillor Wang Yong to attend ECRL ground-breaking ceremony

PUTRAJAYA: Chinese State Councillor Wang Yong is scheduled to attend a ground-breaking ceremony of the East Coast Rail Line (ECRL) project on Wednesday (Aug 9).

The Foreign Ministry said Wang would be the special representative of President Xi Jinping at the ground-breaking ceremony to be held in Kuantan, Pahang.

During the visit, Wang is also scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and will make a site visit to the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park (MCKIP).

“During the courtesy call, Wang is expected to discuss matters relating to Malaysia-China bilateral cooperation as well as on Chinese investments and projects in Malaysia,” said Wisma Putra in a statement today.

The 600km ECRL project is expected to boost Pahang's economy by 1.5 per cent annually. It will link the Klang Valley with key growth areas in Pahang including Bentong, Mentakab, Maran, Gambang, Kuantan Sentral, Port Klang, and Cherating.

Wang will start his three-day official visit to Malaysia starting tomorrow. He is one of five State Councillors who are at the highest level of state administration.

This visit would be Wang's second to Malaysia.

"This visit reflects the close relations that both countries enjoy and the desire to further strengthen these relations," Wisma Putra added.
