Man loses a finger in Kuala Perlis kopitiam brawl

KUALA PERLIS: A 45-year-old man lost one of his fingers during a brawl at an eatery at Jalan Sarawak here early this morning.

It is learnt that the victim and another man, aged 44, were having drinks at the kopitiam when they began to engage in a heated argument at 1.50am.

The other man suddenly produced a knife and slashed the victim repeatedly, severing one fingers, severely injuring another on his left hand and causing injuries to his head.

“Our initial investigation showed that the duo had a misunderstanding over a personal matter before the argument escalated into a fight.

“The knife used by the suspect in the fight is believed to have been obtained from his car,” Kangar police chief Superintendent Wari Kiew said.

Both the victim and the attacker, who was also injured, were rushed to the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital for further treatment.

The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using dangerous weapons, which provides for a maximum jail term of 20 years and fine, or whipping, if convicted.
