Fake detergent seized after consumers complain about fragrance

KOTA KINABALU: A total of 3,145 packets of fake Daia powder detergent were seized by Sabah Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) here yesterday.

The counterfeit goods weighing 850 grammes per pack were discovered during separate raids at four premises here and one in Keningau district which started at 1.30pm, said Sabah KPDNKK chief enforcement officer Yahya Sujak.

His office earlier received report on the fake product being sold from the headquarters of the detergent maker.

“This is our first seizure involving fake detergent. Many users started complaining to the company producing the brand that the detergent they bought did not have the signature fragrance.

“Based on that, the company conducted its own inspection before notifying our office for further action,” he said at a press conference here.

Yahya added that further investigations would be conducted at supermarkets and the suppliers involved, besides continuing raids to seize all fake detergent on the market state-wide.

The case was being investigated under Section 8(2)(b) of the Trade Descriptions Act 2011 (supplies of good with false trade description).
