Phee's lawyers to file revision application in Alor Star High Court tomorrow

GEORGE TOWN: Lawyers for state Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh failed to serve a revision application against his five-day remand order granted by the magistrate's court here earlier today.

Ramkarpal Singh and R.S.N. Rayer went to Penang High Court this evening but there was no one there to attend to them except the guard.

There was also no one at senior Penang High Court judge Datuk Hadhariah Syed Ismail's house in Jalan Brown here.

Ramkarpal said they would go to the Alor Star High Court in Kedah tomorrow morning to get the revision application heard before the High Court judge there.

"We are of the opinion that this is a very serious matter as our client's liberty is at stake. We want this matter to be heard as soon as possible," he told newsmen here this evening.

Earlier today, the magistrate's court here granted a five-day remand order against Phee to facilitate probe into an illegal carbon filter factory in Sungai Lembu, Bukit Mertajam.

The remand order, which will end on Wednesday, was issued by senior deputy registrar Ameera Mastura Khamis.

The remand order was to facilitate the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigations under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009 for abuse of power for gratification.

Ameera also granted the factory's 70-year-old manager and his 37-year-old son, the factory's director, the same five-day remand order.

Dev Kumaraendran appeared for both the father and son.

Speaking to newsmen outside the courtroom, Ramkarpal the court order was " highly irregular" and that he would file for a revision at the High Court under the necessary provisions of the Criminal Prosedure Code, to rectify the order.

Meanwhile Ramkarpal said he believed the Alor Star High Court has the jurisdiction to hear the matter.

A press conference will be held in Kedah immediately after the proceedings.
