Johor royal wedding: Major JB roads to be closed tomorrow

JOHOR BARU: Several roads in the city will be cordoned off during the wedding ceremony of Johor princess Tunku Tun Aminah Maimunah Sultan Ibrahim at the Istana Besar here tomorrow.

Johor police chief Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd said three main roads, namely Jalan Ayer Molek, Jalan Yahya Awal and Jalan Dato Onn, will be temporarily closed for the event.

He said the roads will be closed at 6pm, and reopened once the wedding ceremony ends.

"The closures will also involve several other roads leading to the Istana Besar, which will be manned by traffic police who will ensure smooth traffic movement during the event.

"A total of 129 policemen will be on duty tomorrow to ensure the smooth running of the Johor princess' wedding," he added.

Najmuddin urged all motorists to heed the instructions of traffic police during the wedding ceremony to prevent any disruptions or untoward incidents.

Tunku Tun Aminah, 31, the only daughter of Sultan of Johor Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskansar and Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah, will marry Dutchman Dennis Muhammad Abdullah, 28, in a ceremony steeped in royal Johor tradition.

The couple's betrothal ceremony will be a private affair held at 10am at Istana Bukit Serene, followed by the solemnisation ceremony.

The bersanding (sitting-in-state) ceremony will be held at 8pm at the throne room of the Istana Besar.
